A shoutout to all the exhausted parents who are uselessly googling “sleep training” and “4 month regression” and “food intolerances” and “tongue tie”
One of us recently posted in a closed Facebook group dedicated to high needs babies. It seemed to resonate with folks so here it is in case you need a little reminder of what the hell it’s all for
I joined this group because I’ve survived 2 high needs babies and came out the other side with only 509 extra gray hairs. Ok one kid is 22 years old and the other is 6 years old, just to show you how long it took me to recover between kids!
But I want to send a shoutout to all the exhausted parents who are uselessly googling “sleep training” and “4 month regression” and “food intolerances” and “tongue tie”
Some of these things will apply to your baby and some of them won’t. But NONE of them mean that you are missing some big secret that all the other parents know. There’s nothing magic that you should be doing – you’re already doing it. You’re showing up, 7 times a night, with boobs and cuddles and whatever works in that moment.
There are only 3 things I can guarantee:
1. Whatever works now won’t work next time
Except you. You work. You’re doing it right even when you think you’ve messed up at every turn.
2. All this crap pays off
They turn into powerful, intelligent, creative adults who watch everything and take no shit from anyone. They turn into charismatic people who command attention but have no idea what effect they have. They turn into people we are astonished by. And it’s because you’re here, worrying about every tiny thing and helping them to be who they were born to be.
3. I’m proud of you, for what it’s worth
And I’m not the only one who admires you for just showing up. One foot in front of the other. You’ll get there – one day they will drift off to sleep after a bedtime story and you’ll wonder if they’re sick. But they’re not sick, just ready. And you helped them be that way.
